ASTM A335 P5/ASME SA335 P5 pipe, Chrome content at 4.00% to 6.00 %, Moly content 0.45% to 0.65%. Also called P5 grade Chrome Moly Alloy Pipe, it is in seamless made used for high-temperature and corrosion environment. Corresponding to welded pipe standard in ASTM A691 5CR, made from ASTM A387 Grade 5 steel plate.
Alloy Steel is steel that is alloyed with a variety of elements in total amounts between 1.0% and 50% by weight to improve its mechanical properties. Alloy steels are broken down into two groups: low-alloy steels and high-alloy steels. The difference between the two is somewhat arbitrary: Smith and Hashemi define the difference at 4.0%, while Degarmo, et al., define it at 8.0%.[1][2] Most commonly, the phrase "Alloy Steel " refers to low-alloy steels.
Strictly speaking, every steel is an alloy, but not all steels are called "alloy steels". The simplest steels are iron (Fe) alloyed with carbon (C) (about 0.1% to 1%, depending on type). However, the term "Alloy Steel " is the standard term referring to steels with other alloying elements added deliberately in addition to the carbon. Common alloyants include manganese (the most common one), nickel, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, silicon, and boron. Less common alloyants include aluminum, cobalt, copper, cerium, niobium, titanium, tungsten, tin, zinc, lead and zirconium.
The following is a range of improved properties in alloy steels (as compared to carbon steels): strength, hardness, toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardenability, and hot hardness. to achieve some of these improved properties the metal may require heat treating.
As we know ASTM A335 / ASME SA335 named chrome moly pipe because they have a high level of Cr and Mo, these two are key elements for Alloy Pipe. Chromium will increase oxidation resistance and provides high-temperature strength, along with the better tensile & yield strength with proper hardness at room temperature.
Molybdenum increases the overall strength, resistance, hardenability, elasticity, and whole quality, Moly make material more resistant to softening, restrains the growth of grains and reduce the chances of brittle.
ASTM A335 P5 mechanical properties same with Grade P9, P11, P22, Minimum tensile strength 415MPa, minimum yield strength 205Mpa. Those grades are popular used in different industries.

1. Materials: Take the raw materials out of the raw material warehouse or procurement channels, and conduct inspection and sorting;
2.temperature control: according to the required performance of the product, choose the appropriate temperature, and control it within a certain range;
3. Heating: Use hot blast stove or other heating methods to heat raw materials to the required temperature;
4.annealing: the heated raw materials into the torch box for annealing treatment, in order to improve the mechanical properties of raw materials;
5. Hot rolling: Put the heated raw materials into the hot rolling mill, and process the raw materials through pressure to obtain the required products;
6.cooling: hot rolled products with water or other coolant for cooling, to ensure the stability of the product structure;
7.detection: physical and chemical performance test to determine whether it meets the requirements;
8. Finishing: Organize the products, label them, and prepare them for loading and delivery.
