What is ASME SA 179 (ASTM A179) Standard Specification
The ASTM A179 (SA 179) standard specification covers seamless cold drawn mild carbon steel pipe for use in tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and other similar heat transfer equipment.
ASTM A179 tubing covers outside diameters from 1/8" to 3", i.e. 3.2mm to 76.2mm. Other diameters and thicknesses smaller than those specified are applicable to this standard, but the mechanical properties do not apply to sizes smaller than 1/8" and 3.2 mm, or 0.4 mm thicker than 0.015 inches.
